Unlike the CO2Volc website , which is static, this Wiki serves as a dynamic blog and knowledge base of the CO2Volc project, in particular, the instrument development as well as application. This combination of a blog and a wiki is experimental and we will see where the journey goes!

The active development phase of the CO2 DIAL instrument, the instrument to measure CO2 fluxes from volcanoes, commenced in July 2012. The planning phase ended in spring 2013. Now, one year later, we are testing the prototype, starting to carefully move from the lab out into the real world!

From July 15 to 18 there will be an international, multiparametric measurement campaign on Mt. Etna on Sicily, Italy. A perfect possibility for us to test our CO2 DIAL prototype for the first time on a volcano! Right now we are performing several field tests of the instrument as a preparation towards this campaign. First time ever deployment of a CO2 differential absorption LIDAR (DIAL), specially designed to be used in rough environments. The instrument prototype worked without any defect until the end. It was carried easily by two persons in the terrain. This very first test has taught us many valuable lessons.
